The kids and I have started our Spoon Doll project. I introduced the idea to them a few days ago so they could think about what they wanted to make. Today I drew a quick outline of a spoon and made some photo copies for the kids to outline what they wanted. (After a couple attempts on the girls’ part I ended up having them choose colors and just point out what they wanted and I jotted it down for them).
Bug wants to make a knight with helmet (hmmm – not sure on how we will pull off the helmet). Fairy wants to make a Princess with a crown, braclet and necklace. And Pixie wants pink with hearts. I’ve decided it would be fun to make a Native American inspired spoon doll.
I will keep ya posted with our progress.
Looking forward to seeing "the plan" carried out. Hmmm, does Bug plan to "clothe" his knight or is he being a minimalist with just head gear? 😉
LOL – yes the knight will be clothed! I just have to figure out how to do legs and not have it look so dress like. Thoughts?
I was thinking about male, non wizard, puppets too. A couple of thoughts come to mind. First, cut the robe down to tunic length, and make the arm pattern into legs, cover with material for pants, and tack to the front inside of the tunic. Although you will see the spoon, it could still be used as a puppet. Another idea is to make a false robe, either out of muslin or a dark color. OVER the robe make a shirt, with pants and legs attached under it as described above. Although there would be a robe behind his outfit, a hand would not be seen…hmmm…reading over this I’m not sure it’s very clear. If it doesn’t make sense I can throw together a male. Let me know how it goes.
